Mar Thames is a multimedia journalist and documentarian working at the intersection of collaborative news-based projects and personal explorations of her own history. She is currently pursuing a life-long project, Body Studies, that analyzes her development of self-perception through childhood, trauma and familial relationships, and utilizes archival images, self-portraits and annotated documents in the work.

In her practice, Mar constantly questions the environments she’s in and has developed a keen eye for stories that live around her. She has experience in video and photo production, and previously produced work for ABC News and Good Morning America. She approaches her work with the belief that everyone should have a stake in their story being told.

Mar just graduated from The New School with a BFA in Photography from Parsons School of Design and a BA in Journalism + Design from Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts.

In her free time, she’s either walking her pup, Nash, weaving in and out of traffic on a Citibike, or reading a book in one of NYC’s many parks.
